Yasiin Bey Drops Eerie Track "Basquiat Ghostwriter"
Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def) has been stirring heads these past few weeks. First, he popped up all over Montreal for surprise shows (including Osheaga appearances during the sets of A Tribe Called Red, Nas and most notably, Kendrick Lamar). Following Osheaga weekend, the rapper dipped his toes in the realm of comedy, performing two stand-up shows at the Phi Centre (we went to the first one, read our review here). Shortly after, a video was released of Bey backstage at Osheaga claiming that he, King Los and Black Thought could beat any rapper in a battle.
After all of this fun and chaos, Bey is finally back doing what he does best: making music. Today, the rapper released an obscure tune titled "Basquiat Ghostwriter":
ODESZA Power Up With Little Dragon To Give "Light"
ODESZA have been having a busy summer, touring the festival scene across North America (and soon overseas). On September 18th, the duo will be releasing a deluxe version of their In Return album. One of the new additions that will be featured on this new version of the album is a collaboration with Swedish-based Little Dragon titled "Light".
The song features ODESZA's signature woozy electronic sound, a navigation for Little Dragon from their typically funky style.
50 Cent Returns to Classic Form With "9 Shots"
When we interviewed G-Unit member Kidd Kidd back in February, he said that boss man 50 Cent's upcoming sixth album, Street King Immortal would be reminiscent of his debut album, Get Rich Or Tryin'.
After an utter disappointment of a first single, "Get Low", it appears that Kidd Kidd was most definitely correct, as the latest single, "9 Shots" definitely stays true to the sound of an early 50. Peep the short film for the song below, which features cameos from Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks:
Tame Impala Maintain Trippy Vibes in "Let It Happen" Video
Over the past few years, Australian band Tame Impala have gained a reputation for their inclusion of psychedelic influence in their music, tours and visuals. Tame's new music video for the extremely well-received "Let It Happen" is no acception.
The new video takes its viewers on what will most likely be the most bizarre plane ride they have ever witnessed. The band's new album Currents is available for purchase here.
