Jay Rock Signs to Interscope for Third Album
It's been a while since the world has heard from Jay Rock. Since his last album, 90059, in 2015, the West Coast rapper was in a motorbike accident that resulted in multiple broken bones. The emcee managed to make a full recovery, and was already back on the mic later in the year to provide features for E-40 and Isaiah Rashad, respectively.
At long last, Jay Rock has returned with "King's Dead", a new feature-filled single that doubles has the first single off of his highly anticipated third studio album, as well as the latest offering from the Top Dawg Entertainment-curated Black Panther soundtrack.
A press release prior to the single's release revealed that fans can look forward to a new Jay Rock album in 2018, his first under Interscope Records (in conjunction with TDE). Jay Rock notoriously began his career singed to Top Dawg Entertainment and Tech N9ne's Strange Music. However, Rock departed from the latter label in 2014 due to label politics, a story that Tech N9ne first broke to our publication during a classic interview.
In a rare press appearance with Bootleg Kev & DJ Damage, Jay Rock sat down to discuss "King's Dead", his upcoming album, and plenty more. The rapper says his project should be next in line after TDE release the Black Panther soundtrack next month, and hints that more songs with Kendrick Lamar and Future may make the cut.
