Erykah Badu Recieves Ella Fitzgerald Award at 2015 Montreal Jazz Festival

Last night, Erykah Badu slayed her performance at the Montreal Jazz Festival, performing a career-spanning set which included hits such as "On N On", "Window Seat" and "Bag Lady" among many other signature tunes.

While in Montreal for the festival, Badu was awarded with the Ella Fitzgerald Award, a prize created by the festival which "celebrates the range, originality and the repertoire of a Jazz singer internationally recognized". Badu is the 17th recipient of award. In previous years the prize has gone to other esteemed artists such as Etta James, Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross.

Ms. Badu was extremely humbled by the receiving of the award, expressing her gratitude towards both Ella Fitzgerald and the Jazz Festival:

I am so honored and I hope that Ella hears my voice and my song because she is one of my greatest influences. So Alain [Simard, co-founder of Jazz Fest], thank you so much and congratulations on your festival and the 17th year of this prize.
