Belly Signs to Roc Nation

It's been a long time coming for Canadian rapper Belly. From singles with Snoop Dogg and Juicy J, to features on Danny Fernandez songs, to videos on Much Music and perhaps most notably, affiliations with The Weeknd's XO brand/label, the rapper has always shown great potential to his nation yet never quite had his chance to truly shine. However, it seems like all of that is about to change very soon.

Today, it was announced the Roc Nation, the label founded by none other than Jay Z, has signed Belly, with his first album in almost ten years due out next year.

Earlier in 2015, the rapper released a mixtape titled Up For Days, a project that featured the likes of Travis $cott, French Montana, Juelz Santana and of course, The Weeknd as guest collaborators.

Aside from his solo work, the rapper is also credited as a co-writer on 6 of the 14 tracks off of The Weeknd's sophomore album, Beauty Behind The Madness. This includes songwriting credits on the hit singles "Earned It" and "The Hills", the latter of which stayed atop the Billboard Hot 100 for a whopping six weeks. Said Belly on the signing:

It's exciting stuff. I want to say it was just a complete focus on my craft and my music and I put together a project that I felt like was representative of me as an artist. And I think I just got the right ears with it to the point where Jay Z was interested and heard it and invited me over. And we had a conversation and that was that, you know? A man's handshake, that's all it takes sometimes.

The rapper claims he has "2016 sewed up already", with his Roc Nation expected to drop sometime next year.
