Thundercat Says Fuck the “Friend Zone” on His Latest Single
With already released tracks such as “Them Changes“, and the Kenny Loggins/Michael McDonald-assisted “Show You the Way“, Thundercat’s Drunk is already an early contender for Album of the Year. “Friend Zone”, the Brainfeeder bassist’s latest offering from the LP, keeps said momentum strong, providing an anthem for the loveless on the week of Valentine’s Day.
Drunk is set for a February 24th release, and features an esteemed list of featured guests, including the likes of Pharrell, Wiz Khalifa, and Kendrick Lamar, the latter of whom Thundercat won a Grammy with for their “These Walls” collaboration.
Murs Praises Yeezus with “God Bless Kanye West”
It’s no secret that Kanye West has gone though some difficult personal distress in recent months. Today, Strange Music rapper drops “God Bless Kanye West”, a potent, lyrical single that confronts the topic of mental illness in the black community, a topic many believe West’s hardships have helped open the door for further conversation about.
Says Murs of the track (via 2DopeBoyz):
“We pray for each other and I believe in the power of prayer, but we could really use more mental health professionals in our community instead of mocking Kanye West…he’s having problems and he’s having to work through it. He’s like a football player playing hurt, to me.”

In their latest edition, super producers Tennyson and Mr. Carmack link up for two out of this world tracks together. Fool’s Gold’s First Lady Leaf gets Tropical on “FWM (Lie to Me)”
NY rapper Leaf has done a phenomenal job in proving she’s next-in-line to shine at the independent powerhouse that is Fool’s Gold Records. The flavourful femcee only continues to shine bright on “FMV (Lie to Me)”, which finds Leaf taking her own spin at the “Tropical Rap” trend that has been growing increasingly strong since Drake’s dancehall-inspired dominance of last summer.
Vulnerable, slightly passive-aggressive, and of course, irresistibly catchy, “FWM (Lie to Me)” could very well be the track that takes this versatile talent to the next level.
